5/7/13 Good Fishing
Much better weather for Cecil and crew today. We left out Hatteras Inlet but fishing was slow so we ventured up the line with plans to go back in Oregon Inlet. Gulfstream was laid out how we like and we had good yellowfin and gaffer dolphin fishing. Thanks!
5/6/13 Rough and Rain
We finally made it back out but after 5 days of NE wind and a big sea we had to run down the sound and out Hatteras Inlet with plans to fish there 2 days. We had Cecil and the boys from Maryland who were up for the extra mileage. Rough seas and lots of rain. Slow fishing but we scrapped out 2 yellowfins, a blackfin and few dolphin. Hoping for better tomorrow.
4/27,28 Still Slow
We had Mike Szucs and gang from South Carolina on Saturday. Scrappy fishing again. We had 3 yellowfin bites at once, hooked 2, lost 1 and caught 1. Caught 4 dolphin and a load of False Albacore but nothing else. No better on Sunday for Jim and the boys on Sunday. 1 yellowfin, 1 blackfin, 2 dolphin. Hope for better fishing soon. Thanks
4/25,26 Tough Going
We had Mike Fogarty and the boys from New York on Thursday. We were hopeful for the fishing with the last clear satellite shot showing the gulfstream moving up the edge. Unfortunately we found it had pulled off and ended up way down the beach. Very slow fishing as we only managed 3 dolphin. Also a very long 47mile ride home head to in NE 20 knot winds. Pic of the Rigged Up following us home. Saturday more slow fishing and we ended up even further south. After a discussion with our charter Charles Moretz of FLSA, he decided to cover us for extra fuel and we ran all the way SW of Hatteras Inlet where the Hatteras fleet was having a little action. We got there about 12:30 and managed 3 nice yellowfin, 1 dolphin and had a few more yellowfin bites.
Lots of wind has kept us at the dock for the last few trips we have had booked. Been busy getting boat work done during these blows including sanding teak, waxing outriggers, re-doing halyards, tackle prep etc for the busy next few months. Good showing of yellowfins in Morehead and some caught here tha last couple days guys fished. We start back Thursday and only have 6 days open between then and end of May. June still has plenty of openings and here a couple pics of past June catches to give you and idea of what the month has to offer.
4/7/13 Great Day!
We had Ed, Bob and the boys from Maryland on Sunday. Calm seas and a warm day for once. Fishing was slow but we were very fortunate. Bob did a great job catching a 72" bluefin that weighed 200lbs. We also caught a couple blackfin tuna. Thanks!
4/2,4 Still Slow
We had Eric Cunnigham and crew from Ohio on Monday. The 6 or so boats fishing all ran down the beach looking for the gulfstream change where the Hatteras fleet had good fishing the day before. The water had shoved way out and we turned around at 55miles without getting to warm water. The Seaducer and the Sensation both caught a bluefin in 55 deg water but the rest of us never had a bite. On Thursday we had Greg Farinak's gang from Raleigh and the ride out was bumpy head to seas out east of the inlet. Better conditions once we started fishing and we had 2 bites at once early. Young Michael did a great job to catch a 100lb bluefin. No bites the rest of the day and only 1 other boat had a bluefin bite. Lots of wind for this fri/sat and we will be back out Sunday. Gulf stream looking to be pushing back up the bank so hopefully fishing will improve. Showing a pic below of the BI-OP-SEA running sent to me by a guy fishing in an outboard. Thanks!
3/29,30 Tough fishing
We had Christopher Sunda and crew on friday and fish was very slow. We managed one bite and caught a 83" fish we let go. Saturday we had Andrew Long from Raleigh and had slick calm seas with a lot of boats fishing. We found some bluefins northeast of the inlet and fish but they were not biting. We saw fish cruising on top with tails and dorsal fins out of the water but could not get a bite. A couple boats caught fish but overall not much action.
3/24/13 More Bluefin and first Blue Marlin
We had Luke and Rick today and forecast was wind increasing to 20-25 out of east but had a pretty morning as you can see from pic. The Water had moved up from the day before and the bluefins were there thick. Tough to get bites but we hooked one right away and fought him for about 2 hours. A nice 400lb fish for Luke. Our next bite was very unexpected--a March Blue Marlin. Rick did a great job and it was a nice fish pushing 500lbs. Luke got some video so hopefully we can get that posted sometime. One more bluefin bite which we lost and left early when the wind came on. Thanks guys!
